TVS Motor says company not affected by ExhausTEC patent to Bajaj

TVS Motor says company not affected by ExhausTEC patent to Bajaj In reaction to the patent granted to Bajaj Auto for its ExhausTEC invention, TVS Motor Company's President Marketing, HS Goindi told Business Line that his company had neither infringed the patent nor would the grant of patent have any affect whatsoever on TVS' business, as "none of the products of the company utilize the said technology."

Goindi's comments came in retaliation to Bajaj Auto's April 2 press release reinforcing the patent grant published in the Patent Gazette of March 27. Goindi said that the ExhausTEC patent to Bajaj Auto is, in no way, a threat to the TVS Motor business or market share because the company has not infringed on the mentioned patent.

Clarifying its position, TVS Motor said in a statement on Friday: "The patent granted to Bajaj Auto is for ExhausTEC, which is a chamber fitted on the exhaust pipe. It has nothing to do with DTSi twin spark technology. They are two separate patents and are not linked to each other."

The company release further explained that while its DTS-i technology makes use of two spark plugs in the engine's cylinder head; Bajaj Auto's patented ExhausTEC is fitted in the additional chamber in exhaust pipe and not on the engine itself. As such, TVS reiterated that both of the technologies are characteristically "independent," with separate patents!
