Man Held For Sending Threatening Letters To MS Dhoni
In a significant move, the police arrested a man suspected of sending two threat letters sent to the Indian cricket team skipper M S Dhoni last year.
Confirming the development, H K Lal, DCP, said, "We have detained a man and are interrogating him. His name is Taslim. But we have not yet arrived at any conclusion.”
It can be recalled that Taslim, who has been arrested here on Thursday, is wanted in over a dozen criminal cases in Jharkhand.
Tasleem known as Sohail Ansari in Orissa, was picked up by the police from his hideout at Sikharchandi slum, in the border of the state capital.
In December 2008, Dhoni’s family received two letters from someone who asserted to be a close link of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. It is believed that Taslim left Ranchi (capital of Jharkhand) in the early 1990s and joined the Dawood gang.
The first letter demanded Rs.5 million as ransom from M S Dhoni.
Another letter which was again sent in the same month threatened to blow up his home if the money was not paid and if the police were approached.
Following the threat, the Indian skipper was provided the Z-category security cover by the Jharkhand government.
