Police officer killed in suspected bomb blast in western Turkey

Ankara - A police officer was killed Thursday afternoon in a suspected bomb explosion outside a police station in western Turkey, NTV private television reported.

Police sources told NTV that the officer was opening a package outside a police station in the town of Aliaga near Izmir when the package exploded.

The officer rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In the immediate aftermath of the explosion no group had claimed responsibility for the attack. (dpa)
