Shivraj Patil condemns militant attack on CRPF in Rampur

Union Home Minister Shivraj PatilNew Delhi, Jan 1: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today condemned the attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Group Centre at Rampur in Uttar Pradesh.

“I condemn today’s attack on the CRPF Group Centre at Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. The Home Ministry is in touch with the Uttar Pradesh Government and CRPF authorities following the incident,” said Patil in a message.

Patil said a detailed report has been sought about the facts and circumstances of the incident. He also added that the concerned authorities have been asked to take immediate and effective measures to identify and trace the culprits and bring them to book.

“I convey my sympathies to the kin of those killed in the attack and pray for speedy recovery of the injured,” Patil said.

At least seven personnel belonging to Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed in militants’ attack on their camp in the wee hours on Tuesday.

A civilian person was also killed in the attack.

According to the CRPF and police officials, militants armed with AK-47 rifles and grenades attacked the camp at around 2:20 a. m.

The security personnel and police patrolling the area intercepted the attackers leading to a fierce gun battle in which seven CRPF personnel and a civilian were killed, they said.

The entire area has been cordoned off.

According to media reports, Intelligence Bureau (IB) had warned the Uttar Pradesh Government on November 28 against a Fidayeen attack. (ANI)
