No inferior quality buses supplied to Govt. – Tatas

No inferior quality buses supplied to Govt. – Tatas While there have been a handful of incidents where several low-floor buses caught fire in the city, its manufacturer Tata Motors has refuted before the Delhi High Court the allegation that it supplied "sub-standard" vehicles to the city government.

In fact, the company said in its defence that the company has a reputation in the country and the company is by no means a flight-by-night company.

Moreover, the advocate Rajeev Nayar said that the buses supplied to the DTC are not sub-standard and the allegation levelled is baseless.

It is to be mentioned here that the advocate was responding to the allegation that the manufacturers of low-floor buses had failed to comply with the safety standards resulting in incidents of buses getting caught in fire.

It may be recalled here that the DTC had given contract to Tata Motors to supply close to 1625 ultra low-floor buses to the transport corporation and their maintenance for 12 years.

While the contract is valued at Rs 2200 crores, comprising about Rs 900 crores for the 1625 buses, it is to be mentioned here that the amount stands at around Rs 1300 crores for maintenance.
