Nintendo wins landmark lawsuit against game piracy
Gaming giant Nintendo's Australian arm won a landmark lawsuit against another DS piracy. This was the second time Nintendo Australia was awarded in piracy lawsuits in less than a month's time.
The game maker had filed a suit against RSJ IT Solutions alleging that the local distributor was illegally selling R4 mod chip enabling gamers to pirate DS games. Holding RSJ IT Solutions guilty, an Australian court ordered it to pay $520,000 to Nintendo Australia for damages. Two individuals who were associated to RSJ in the case were also asked to pay $100,000 to Nintendo.
The R4 chip, which already has made a name for itself among the gamers, is now distributed by many international distributors.
Earlier this month an Australian individual was ordered to pay $1.5 million in damages for copying and uploading a Nintendo game to the internet.
Currently Nintendo Australia is on a rampage against game piracy. The company already made it clear last year that it would go after anyone who breaches its intellectual property rights.
While RSJ IT Solutions have declined to comment on the Australian Federal Court ruling, Nintendo's comments are yet to come.
