Islamabad, Aug 12 : Amid the impending Impeachment Motion against him, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is said to be toying with the ideas like invoking Article 58 (2b) to dissolve the Assemblies or using the PCO courts to challenge Shahbaz Sharif’s election as MPA and Punjab chief minister, in order to counter the ruling coalition’s move. He may also simultaneously use the Supreme Court to repeal the NRO.

Besides, Musharraf may also use the MQM, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Pir Pagara, Mumtaz Bhutto and other anti-PPP forces to bring down the PPP government Sindh, reported The News.

Sources in the presidential camp on the anonymity said: “These are some of the moves Musharraf has so far finalised in his parleys with legal experts, Q-League politicians and his ‘sponsors abroad’. There are other options still being thrashed out for inclusion on the list”.

Reacting to what Musharraf is learnt to have planned to save his skin, PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar said: “We are aware of all conspiracies Musharraf is hatching. Let him do whatever he does. He is only shooting at his own foot. We are not deterred from our move to impeach him. Come what may, Musharraf is doomed to face the masses’ wrath. We shall politically deal with whatever moves he makes. Where we are unable to stop him and hit back, politically and legally, the loss is to be incurred by Musharraf and not us.”

Another source at the Presidency said that the next three days are expected to be critical as far as Musharraf’s “moves” are concerned. “Any moment within these 72 hours is critical. I can say that the loser is going to be the ruling (PPP-ML-N) coalition, at least in the first phase. The Punjab governor is set to ask Shahbaz Sharif to seek a vote of confidence after the president’s move to destabilise him yields some results. In this chaos anything can happen,” the paper quoted the source as saying.

Though it is still unclear at what stage would the President resort to the crucial option of using powers under 58-2(b) of the Constitution, sources close to the Presidency insist that this too would be clear in the next 72 hours.

When asked why the ruling coalition allowed such a long gap for Musharraf to move between announcing to impeach the president and the actual tabling of the resolution at the National Assembly, a senior PPP leader Farhatullah Babar said: “It was deemed essential to give the resolution-tabling process a political and moral tempo via resolutions in the provincial assemblies in support of impeachment. But, whatever the Presidential quarters conceive and do would be harmful to them and not to us. Let him take whatever action he can. We are not going to be the losers. We win politically and morally. His fate is going to be decided this way or that in this process.” (ANI)
