Musharraf’s impeachment draft ready

Pervez MusharrafIslamabad, August 7 : The draft regarding the proposed impeachment of President Pervez Musharraf has been completed by a four-member Draft Committee of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party-Pakistan Muslim League coalition and placed with the Leader of the House in the Senate.

According to The News, the committee comprises of Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iaqbal, Sherry Rehman, Farooq H. Naek and Raza Rabbani.

A joint statement was issued to the media at 3 p. m. in Zardari House today.

The decision to move an impeachment motion against President Musharraf was taken in the wee hours of Thursday after more than two days of talks between Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif, who were assisted by leaders of their respective parties.

The meeting was being described by political observers as a "make or break" one for the coalition.

The Upper House of Pakistan’s parliament the Senate witnessed pandemonium amid heated exchange of words between the Opposition and Treasury benches last evening when Senator Kamran Murtaza alleged that President Musharraf had paid Rs 25 crore to some members of the parliament to elect him as the president.

Meanwhile, reacting to the Impeachment Motion against him on August 11 (Monday), the Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has reportedly vowed to fight back

Having sensed that the PPP-led Government will move the motion against him, Musharraf last evening said that while it was the Government’s right to table the impeachment motion against him, he also had the “right to defend” his actions.

The Presidency quoted him as saying, “My doors are open for everyone in the larger national interests.”

The President further said that if an impeachment motion was tabled against him in the parliament, he would defend his position there, and that he would not allow the destabilisation of the country. (ANI)
