MTNL Moving Ahead With Its Trials Of 3G Spectrum In The Capital
By the end of this month, trials of 3G services, would be conducted by the state owned PSU, MTNL in the national capital and further in December, the commercial launch of the same would take place. By the early months of the next year, the services would be available in Mumbai.
The initial 3G trials of MTNL will take place in the Connaught Place area. The core equipment necessary for the services has been acquired by the company and presently it is working on mobilizing the radio equipment.
MTNL and BSNL have already been provided one block of 3G spectrums, whereas the private players are yet to acquire the 3G spectrum through the mode of auction by the Govt. However the two PSUs have been bound by the condition, i.e. they have to match the price offered by the highest bidder. MTNL has plans to install 3G GSM core capacity of 750,000 lines each in the two cities.
