M&M Posts 21.6% Growth In February Sales
Mahindra and Mahindra, part of the $6.7-billion Mahindra group, has
recorded a 21.6% year-on-year increase in its three-wheeler and utility
vehicle sales in February 2009.
The Indian auto major sold 18,135 units during the last month, as against 14,909 units in the same period last year (Feb 2008).
The company recorded a 17% sales growth its utility vehicle segment,
which includes M&M’s Bolero, Scorpio and Xylo range of vehicles.
Under this section, M&M sold 14,720 units in Feb 2009 as compared to 12,562 during last February (2008).
During February 2009, M&M automotive sector’s total volumes, which
also include joint ventures, stood at 19,594 units as compared to
18,379 units in February 2008.
During the period under review, M&M said that it sold a total of
19,894 vehicles comprising exports, as against 19,674 vehicles sold in
the corresponding period of the previous year.
The company’s year-to-date volumes till Feb 2009 were 194,467 units, as against 195,849 units in Feb 2008.
Logan, the passenger car from M&M’s JV with Renault, sold 1,008
vehicles during the period as against 2,751 units in the corresponding
period last fiscal.
Moreover, the company’s (M&M) Farm Equipment Sector (FES), a
leading machinery provider for the farming segment announced 40% growth
in total sales to 9,123 units in February 2009.
At 02:56 p.m., the shares of the company lost 1.4% at Rs 313.50 on the
Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), while the share were trading 2.6% down at
Rs 311.50 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
