Miyamoto to step down from his position in Nintendo

According to some reports, Shigeru Miyamoto is planning to step down from his position of head of Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development.

Miyamoto is behind popular games like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pikmin, and others and is often described as the man behind the modern evolution of the video gaming industry.

He is expected to leave his position to work on smaller projects by himself or with younger developers instead of huge names like Zelda: Skyward Sword that has been under development for around five years. He is planning to stat work on one such small project in the coming year.

The acknowledged game designer has trained many people for developing games and has been successful in passing on his talents. The teams behind successful titles like Zelda: Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land were trained by him.

He has been joking around at his work place that he is going to retire soon. He pointed out that he is not going to retire from game development but only from his current position int eh company.

"What I really want to do is be in the forefront of game development once again myself," he added. "Probably working on a smaller project with even younger developers. Or I might be interested in making something that I can make myself, by myself. Something really small."
