Michelle, Malia and Sasha Obama become fashion icons overnight
Washington, Jan 24 : Forget Hollywood celebs, for First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha are the latest trendsetters.
Designer Isabel Toledo, who created the yellow Inauguration Day suit for Michelle Obama is stormed with orders to create low-priced knockoff of the First Lady's dress.
And that's not all, clothes retailer J Crew is flooded with phone calls as moms across the country try to get the colourful coats Malia and Sasha Obama wore at their dad President Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony.
"Michelle Obama is a new fashion icon. She is accessible and stylish. She is ''everywoman,''" Fox News quoted Stephanie Soloman, Bloomingdale''s vice president for fashion direction as saying.
"She has fashion flair and the ability to wear an outfit so that her personality shines through.
"Clothes do not wear her, she wears the clothes. And her choice of new and up-and-coming American designers is a real boost to the entire American fashion industry," she added.
Kate Ciepluch, fashion director at online retailer Shopbop. com echoes same views.
"Since Michelle Obama has entered the public eye, she has graced us with a style that is timeless and bold. She isn''t afraid to wear bright colours and prints, but sticks to sophisticated, chic silhouettes. She is definitely setting the right tone as a fashion icon," she said.
"Since she's been in the public eye, she has never once failed to look perfectly put together and stylish, and she has a definitive eye for new talent," said Carol Han, executive fashion director at Stylecaster. com. (ANI)
