McCartney, Guns N' Roses release new albums on MySpace

McCartney, Guns N' Roses release new albums on MySpaceLos Angeles - Seventeen years after their last record, the super rockers of the 1980s, Guns N' Roses, Thursday released their long-delayed new album Chinese Democracy exclusively on website MySpace.

Also showing digital awareness was ex-Beatle Paul McCartney, who unveiled his new album on the social networking site. The album, Electric Arguments, is by McCartney's group The Fireman.

Fans are able to play both albums on the bands' MySpace pages, but they will not be able to download them. Both albums will be released on CD in the United States next week. Fans can also buy songs from McCartney's album through MySpace Music.

The debuts come as MySpace attempts to gain traction as an advertising-supported music site with deals that allow members to stream but not download music from all the major record labels.

Reviews of the Guns N' Roses offering have been less than kind, with singer Axl Rose, the only remaining member of the original band, while McCartney's third album with the Fireman features experimental music that is unlikely to crack the charts.(dpa)
