Market finishes flat on consolidation pressure
The National Stock Exchange benchmark index S&P CNX Nifty closed nearly flat on Friday with a miniscule gain of 8.45 points after sustaining continued consolidation pressure through out the day.
The 50-scrip index, which went past the 5100 mark on Asian cues in early trades, could not sustain the level and remained volatile for the rest of the day before closing at 5088.70.
The Bombay Stock Exchange sensitive index (Sensex) too followed its broader counterpart to close at 16,994.49, up by just 22.79 points. BSE midcap index and smallcap index, however, showed a better movement as compared to the 30-stock benchmark. While the madcap index closed 0.62 per cent up, the smallcap index ended the day with a gain of 0.82 per cent.
The BSE Realty index remained the pick of the day with a rise of 1.77 per cent as stocks of major realtors rallied on Friday. While DLF and Ansal Properties rose close to four per cent, mediocre players like Sobha Developers and Akruti City climbed nearly six per cent.
However, the market remained broadly positive with a total of 1,671 advances and 1,165 declines on BSE.
