Manufacturing sector needs more safety measures

Manufacturing sector needs more safety measures The public liability insurance holders in the country have been recently told that more improvement is required in the safety measures in the country as far as the manufacturing sector is concerned. It is to be mentioned here that the announcement has come even after the fewer deaths and injuries being recorded.

As per the latest figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), in the period of April 2009 and March 2010, the number of reported major incidents, for instance the amputations and broken bones filed a fall of close to 11% standing at a level of 3,863.

It may be noted here that close to 22 people died in the sector during 2009/10 which is less than the average level of 33 deaths in the past five years.

Geoff Cox, head of manufacturing for the health body is of a view that it is sign of encouragement that fewer deaths and injuries have happened in the manufacturing sector in the last year but it does not give space for complacency.

Moreover, he also mentioned that the actual rate of deaths is very much higher to that of which is shown in the figures.
