Manipal Univ Comes Up With A Medical Simulation Centre
In a significant move, Manipal University has become the country’s first University to have a Medical Simulation Centre.
The University has launched medical simulation to tap the educational advantages as an addition to conventional teaching with patients.
While speaking on this, MU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Raj P Warrier said, “With simulation, there is no risk to patients, realistic clinical scenarios can be reproduced reliably for different trainees, and serious types of medical crises can be duplicated allowing participants to hone their teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.”
It should be noted that medical simulation plays a vital role in countries like USA. However, in countries like India it is still in its initial stage. .
It is considered as one of the best means to develop education standards and help construct a huge number of professionals in a variety of sectors.
Meanwhile, MU Registrar Dr H Vinod Bhat accepted that running a medical simulation centre is “a fairly expensive affair”.
He also said that the university had also acquired several units for the lab, the main one being the manikin, an anatomical model of the human body, used in teaching art or medicine, called SimMan.
Among others who were present at the inauguration ceremony were - Medical Education Director Dr A R Arun, Manipal University Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal and Registrar Dr G K Prabhu.
