Mahindra & Mahindra has taken a step ahead in creating environment-friendly vehicles. The auto major, which had seen lot of success after launching its three-wheelers based on CNG cargo- Alpha and Champion in the market, now is ready to extend the range of CNG vehicles on its passenger vehicles such as Scorpio. Beside this, the company would also introduce electric versions of the same.

On Thursday, the M&M launched a CNG variant of Bolero, which is the company’s one tonner pick-up vehicle. The car would cost around Rs 5.42 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The major advantage of the CNG version of the vehicle would be that the operating cost would be 40 per cent lower compared with a diesel vehicle. To add more, it could run almost up to 300 km without a refill.

Excited with the launch of CNG variant Bolero, Mr Vivek Nayer, Vice President of Marketing at the Automotive Sector of Mahindra reported, “Availability of CNG is a big issue. There is a big market for such vehicles. However, the Government on its part has to roll out more CNG stations in the existing cities as well as set up the network in the new cities.”

Nayer also said that about 80% of passenger vehicles in Pakistan run on CNG and the same should also happen in India.

The company is also planning to launch electric vehicles for commercial and passenger use. Though the date or time line of the launch is not fixed as yet, Nayer said that they have the technology with them but the company is waiting for the right infrastructure to have proper facilities to charge the vehicle while running across the city and more distant destinations.
