Lotus officially unveils all-new 100% electric Eletre hyper-SUV

Norfolk, England-based sports car manufacturer Lotus recently took wraps off its long-teased “Type 132” all-electric SUV, called the Eletre, which is being touted as the world’s first hyper-SUV.

The Eletre (pronounced “El-etra”) comes with a slew of new eye-catching specs and feature. To produce the new electric SUV, the manufacturer has taken the heart and soul of the Emira sports car and blended it with the fully-electric Evija hypercar.

As per Lotus’ press release following the official unveiling of the new electric SUV, the Eletre will be an all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicle built on a new 800V dedicated electric architecture that comes with more than 100-kWh battery. The system produces 600 horsepower, a top speed of 260 km/h (161 mph) and an acceleration of 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in slightly less than three seconds.

The Eletre will reportedly deliver a maximum range (WLTP) of 600 km (roughly 373 miles) on a single charge. However, EPA range estimate could be lower than that. When it comes to charging capabilities, the all-electric SUV will be able to add 400 km (roughly 248 miles) in just 20 minutes from a 350 kW charger. It will also be able to accept 22kW AC charging as standard.

In the production model, the front end of the SUV features a LiDAR sensor above the windshield and on both sides of the vehicle. In lieu of side mirrors, there will be Electric Reverse Mirror Displays (ERMDs), accommodating three separate cameras – one for the rear-view mirror, one for creating a 360-degree view of the vehicle, and one as part of its intelligent driving technologies.

The intelligent drive cameras combined with the aforementioned LiDAR sensors will add autonomous (self-driving) capabilities to the upcoming electric SUV. However, the extent of the autonomous capabilities remains unclear at this point.

Inside, the SUV will have four or five seats, below a fixed panoramic sunroof. Seat fabric will be consisted of man-made microfibers and wool blended with some materials. The hard materials will be made of carbon fiber.

Other notable features include a 1,380-watt, 15-speaker set-up with Uni-QTM with KEF surround sound technology, ADAS and some really striking infotainment features.

In addition to being British brand’s first-ever SUV, the Eletre will deliver several other firsts. For instance, it is going to be the brand’s first five-door production vehicle as well as its first lifestyle EV.
