A great news for children and adults as Kansas Wetlands Education Center's Butterfly Festival is taking place on September 19. At the event to be held from 9 am to noon, participants will indulge in exciting activities like making milkweed seed bombs and tagging monarch butterflies.

There will be a mix of old and new activities like monarch tagging, insect zoo, crafts and door prizes. Participants could also try silk spinning. Those who want to capture and tag monarchs will be able to get nets and tags at the event.

Sessions will be organized to make participants aware about the tagging process and then they will be allowed to tag the butterflies. Though a decline has been witnessed in the number of monarch butterflies, they have rebounded locally.

If weather will be fine then an exhibit bee hive will also be on display. Also, there will be giant walking stick insects, hissing and peppered cockroaches and butterflies, caterpillars and chrysalises. Free milkweed plants will be given to all and there will door prizes as well.

To make a seed bomb, people can play in the mud made up of clay, compost, water and native flower seeds. One can even take photos at monarch butterfly and caterpillar photo boards. Among the activities, participants could also create butterfly magnet and fuzzy caterpillar in the craft section. Arrangements of refreshments will also be there. Temporary tattoo, games and other activities arrangement will also be there.
