Labour unrest back in vogue

Labour unrest back in vogue Running hard in the phase of Globalization and the attractive proposition of cheap labour may have got several MNCs to establish their headquarters in the Indian market but the labour unrest problems are surely playing a party spoiler.

While strikes and protests are common global phenomena but in the Indian market, the strikes have been the talk of the town primarily because of the names involved — Hyundai, Honda, Nokia, Bosch, Pricol to name a few.

There is no denying to the fact that several companies out of the above represent the best across their respective industries. And a case in, point being the, strike at Hyundai's Tamil Nadu factory, earlier in June 2010.

However, its just in some pockets that the labour activism is causing problems in certain pockets as the number in the country overall is on a fall. It is to be mentioned here that while close to 4.5 lakh workers affected due to strikes and lockouts in 2008, the number came down to a mere 90,000 in 2010 so far.

With the Tamil Nadu belt leading he pack, companies in the Gurgaon-Manesar region have also been suffering through strikes and lockouts.
