King of Jordan to visit Iraq soon - Iraqi foreign minister

Baghdad - Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said Wednesday that Jordanian King Abdullah II would visit Iraq soon in a sign of a diplomatic breakthrough between Iraq and Arab countries and the improving security and political situation.

Speaking to reporters, Zebari said Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) would open their embassies in Baghdad soon.

"The improving security and political situation that Iraq has seen recently has had positive consequences and led to a diplomatic breakthrough on the regional and international level," Zebari said.

Several countries have expressed their wish to send ambassadors to Iraq, including Jordan and UAE, the minister said. (dpa)
