Karnataka Governor accepts Lokayukta Justice Patil''s resignationBangalore, Sep 20 : Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj today accepted Justice Shivaraj V Patil''s resignation from the post of the state''s Lokayukta.

Justice Patil had resigned from the post on Monday following a controversy over allotment of housing sites for his wife and himself.

"I did not ask for the position of Karnataka Lokayukta. When offered, I accepted this as an opportunity to serve the people of Karnataka with commitment and concern. A malicious campaign has been carried out over the past few days against me. I wish to clarify for people to know and judge for themselves on the holding of land and sites by my wife and myself," said Justice Patil.

"This malicious campaign has deeply hurt and pained me. In this uncongenial atmosphere, I have deemed it appropriate to submit my resignation," he added.

According to reports, Justice Patil faced allegations of violating Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) rules by securing allotment of a 9,600 square foot site at Judicial Employees Layout in 1994 and his wife a
4,200 sq ft site at Nagavara from the Vyalikaval Housing Cooperative Society. (ANI)
