Jeep’s all-electric Avenger 4x4 Concept boasts more capabilities
Jeep, an American automobile marquee now owned by multi-national corporation Stellantis, recently introduced the world to its production-ready Avenger EV 4x4 Concept. The all-electric Jeep Avenger 4x4 Concept, which follows the launch of the production version of the Avenger 4x2 battery-electric vehicle, will initially be sold with front-wheel drive. An all-wheel drive variant of the vehicle is expected to hit the roads sometime later this year. The single motor of the front-wheel drive variant is capable of churning out 154 horsepower (hp) and 260 Nm (191 pound-feet) of torque.
The all-wheel drive variant will come equipped with two identical motors, capable of producing combined output of more than 300 hp. Thus, the additional rear motor will likely be slightly smaller than the front motor. The world-renowned brand did say that the all-wheel drive variant is also in the pipeline.
Currently, Jeep is not offering any EV that churns out power such a high power with a battery as small as the Avenger 4x4 Concept’s 54-kWh pack. Most probably, Jeep will not use a larger battery pack for the Avenger, simply because this is the only one pack available and it is being used in all EVs.
The Avenger 4x4 Concept is based on the STLA Small platform, which doesn’t support all-wheel drivetrains. Jeep’s parent firm, Stellantis, is working on a new version of the STLA platform, which will be able to accommodate a rear motor as well.
Jeep CEO Christian Meunier said in a statement that the all-electric 4x2 model is already known for its capabilities but the company wanted to introduce four-wheel drive electrified capabilities into a compact package.
Speaking on the topic, Meunier said, “The all-electric 4x2 model already offers some of the best-in-class capabilities that identify the Jeep brand. But we couldn’t help but wonder, what would happen if we injected the Jeep brand’s four-wheel drive electrified capabilities into a compact package, while retaining the brand’s unique design language, capability and personality?”
The Jeep Avenger 4x4 Concept boasts great design and high capability. It features an anti-scratch grille, aggressive-looking tires, thicker cladding, anti-reflective bonnet sticker, extra built-in flood lights, a new lightweight roof cargo system, wider bumpers, and more tow hooks.
Nothing has been revealed about the launch of the Jeep Avenger 4x4 Concept. The world-renowned brand just reiterated that its full portfolio of fully-electric models is just around the corner.
