Tokyo  - Japanese reacted with dismay and disappointment Friday evening after the capital city Tokyo was eliminated as a venue for the 2016 Olympic games by the International Olympic Committee.

"This is a total shock," said Naoko Takahashi, who won the women's marathon at the 2006 games in Sydney.

Yuko Arimori, who won the women's marathon silver medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, said about Tokyo's bid for 2016: "The presentation was good, but it lacked that something extra." dpa
