Israeli forces kill Palestinian trying to ram them with vehicle
Jerusalem - Israeli border policemen shot and fatally wounded an East Jerusalem Palestinian who tried to run them over during the demolition of a house in the village of Sur Bakher Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened as border police and soldiers from the army's Home Front Command were destroying the home of a Sur Bakher resident who intentionally ran amok with a bulldozer and killed three people in West Jerusalem last July.
Reports from the scene Tuesday said the Palestinian drove his car at a checkpoint set up at the entrance to the village, in southern Jerusalem.
The three border policemen on duty there tried to jump out the way, but were lightly injured in the legs. One of them opened fire, fatally injuring the driver.
Residents of Sur Bakher denied the driver had intentionally tried to ram the checkpoint and some of them threw rocks at the border police and army vehicles at the site.
In July last year Sur Bakher resident Hussam Dwayat mounted a bulldozer at a building site in West Jerusalem, and steamrolled down one of the city's main streets, smashing cars and ramming a crowded bus.
Three people were killed in his rampage and 45 wounded, before he was shot dead by an off-duty soldier. (dpa)
