Israeli army kills Palestinian teenager in West Bank village

Ramallah - Israeli soldiers opened fire Saturday and killed one Palestinian teenager and injured young man in the West Bank village of Taqoa, south-east of Bethlehem, according to medical sources.

They said a 16-year-old Palestinian was dead on arrival at a hospital in Bethlehem after he was shot in the chest. Another 20-year- old Palestinian was injured in the leg and reported in stable condition.

Palestinian sources said the soldiers opened fire at stone-throwing youths near the Palestinian village. The soldiers left the village after the incident.

In another development, Jewish settlers went on a rampage in the village of Assira Qiblia, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, earlier Saturday ransacking homes and attacking Palestinians.

Official sources said the settlers attacked the village, which was under army curfew since the early morning following the stabbing of a settler boy near the village.

They said the army did not act as the settlers rampaged in the village, where the army had earlier entered in search of the assailant.

According to the sources, the stabber was setting settler homes in a nearby illegal outpost on fire when he stabbed the boy, who received minor injuries.

Eight Palestinians were injured during the rampage and one house was completely destroyed, said the sources. (dpa)
