IOC to use blacklists in fight against doping

IOC to use blacklists in fight against doping Denver, Colorado  - The international Olympic Committee (IOC) intends using blacklists against those working in the background with athletes as part of its fight against doping.

"We have to look more deeply into the environment of the athletes because that is where it is happening," IOC vice-president Thomas Bach told German Press Agency dpa in an interview following the IOC Executive Committee meeting that concluded Friday in Denver.

"We want to draw up a list of those potentially involved, who was coached by whom, who was the doctor, who was the manager," explained Bach.

The information will then be used by the IOC to put together a picture of how the doping network in Olympic sports operates.

The Olympic Movement also wants to intensify its cooperation with national criminal agencies in its fight against doping, with charges immediately being pressed against potential suspects.

"The national and international federations will present a list and we will then support them if necessary," said Bach.

New doping revelations could be revealed in the coming months as follow-up tests continue on up to 500 samples taken from athletes at last summer's Beijing Olympics.

IOC president Jacques Rogge said in his closing press conference that the results will be expected within the next three weeks. (dpa)
