Invert negativity

When was the last time you got drowned in negative emotions? Chances are that it was very recently. Don’t get derailed.

We all have our low moments. When a low tide hits you, don’t wallow in it. Instead, quickly move on. Just tell yourself that it is not the time to be caught in the whirlpool of negativity but an opportunity to figure out new ways of thinking and doing things.

First, do not let your low moods dictate your behaviour or perception. Low moods have the ability of spinning you into an unreal world where everything seems hopeless. They let you paint a picture that is worse than reality. Life seems an unending burden, problems seem insurmountable, relationships look painful and solutions appear impossible. Everyone seems set to be against you. As people converse, you suspect that they are talking about you.

You forget the fact that just a day ago, you were feeling on the top of the world. You had solutions to all question marks. You got along like a house on fire with all those you care for. Life was so good. But with the whiff of a negative mood, all this is jettisoned without a thought.

Invariably, we choose to use the negative phases to sit down to analyse our lives. That is the worst thing we can do. The analysis is sure to be totally skewed, because we are emotionally imbalanced at that time. Life just collapses in a heap. Absurd. Never analyse when your emotions are not normal. Recognise the fact that negative emotions burst forth when you are feeling low.

Tell yourself that this emotional outburst will go by just the way it came. Take it easy. Give only that much space to a negative mood as it deserves. If you do, you will see it wither away. The more attention you give it the more it will bloom in various colours and shapes.

So, the upshot is there are just too many important things in life worth thinking about and doing. So, do not waste time sweating over the small stuff. Remember, there is nothing called a negative experience as every experience teaches you something. Look at it positively. It will lose the power to hurt and wound you. Laugh at yourself. Smile at life. Take a few deep breaths. Think of the sun rising everyday, despite everything.
