Indoor Air Purifiers improve Health of Heart Disease Patients: Study

Researchers from China conducted a study and found that indoor air purifiers could be beneficial for people with heart diseases. In addition, the air purifier could also help lowering the risk of developing heart diseases in healthy adults, according to the study.

Chinese researchers said that the findings of the study could be beneficial for the world’s major cities that face air pollution problem. Dr. Sanjay Rajagopalan, cardiologist at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine in Baltimore and an author of the study, said that the devices helped people in the study to lower the chances of heart diseases.

The study conducted by Dr. Ang Zhao and Dr. Renjie Chen from Fudan University in Shanghai has been published this week in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. According to the study, the previous studies that linked air pollution to higher risks of developing cardiovascular events like strokes and heart attack were right.

During the study, the researchers asked participant without any heart problem to use a real or fake indoor air purifier in their room for about two days. After some days, they were asked to do again the same process. According to the researchers, the study was conducted because the world’s most populous country has currently been facing the worst air pollution crisis.

After the study, the researchers found that the rooms where air purifiers were used had fewer amounts of harmful air particles. The devices reduced about 60% harmful air particles from the rooms.

According to Dr. Rajagopalan, the study has highlighted the benefits of keeping air purifiers in the room. But, Dr. Rachel Taliercio, an Ohio lung expert, said, “Not all patients might benefit from indoor air purifiers, while the clear benefits the rest may receive remained unclear”.
