Indians becoming more web conscious
A latest report conveyed by Google sates that in February 2010, India
was found with second largest consumer of mobile-internet after US.
Indians are becoming more web conscious.
Out of the 14 billions WebPages seen on mobile phones, India accounted
for 5.9 percent of the share. It was found that US won the top position
in web usage on handsets when compared to India and China, but it is
commendable on India's part to overcome China in web usage.
On the contrary, this information was revealed by Google which is not
as governing in China as it is in other countries. So it is expected
that there can be a possibility that web usage in Chinese market might
not be assessed properly by Google.
Google's India product head, Vinay Goel points out a fact that new data
connections added this year will be more on mobiles than on PC. He also
figures out that in India mobile -internet usage has increased five
times in the last five years. In India, out of 500 mobile users, 25
million users use paid data accounts and 55-65 million users use
operator provided data services.
Talking about mobile internet usage in India and in western countries,
the major difference lies in the means people use to access the mobile
web. India is still using low-end handsets for web browsing, costing
between Rs. 3500 and Rs. 5500.
Nokia rules the Indian market with its popular handset Nokia N70. The
iPhone alone holds 40 percent market of the global mobile web traffic.
The other popular handsets used in India for web browsing are Xpress
Music 5130 and the 3110c.
This report reveals that as mobile internet usage in un-doubtfully
increasing in India, now it is high time that Indians should adapt
faster and better mobile internet services to make the experience more
enjoyable.
