India Post has planned to offer an attractive percent discount on gold coins of different denominations on occasion of the `Akshaya Tritiya' festival, which is considered auspicious for buying the shiny metal in India.

The offer has been launched in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh. The festival of Akshaya Tritiya is celebrates as day to welcome prosperity by people in different regions of the country. People usually purchase gold this day as it is conserved a symbol of prosperity in the country. The discount will be applicable on gold coins of denominations including, 0.5 g, 8 g, 10 g, 20 g and 50 g of 24 carat and 99.99 per cent purity.

State-run, India Post ha sbeen selling cold coins made by Valcambi of Switzerland since 2008 after a joint venture with World Gold Council and Reliance Money Infrastructure. The department sells gold coins on 800 post offices spread across the country.

Gold traders and Jwellers are expecting strong business during this year's Akshaya Tritiya compared to the previous year as eh sales have increased in the days leading up to the festival.

The festival will be celebrated on April 24 this year across the country.
