India calls for an ambitious plan for global recovery

India calls for an ambitious plan for global recoveryIndia has asked the leading economies of the world including those in the `G-20' grouping for creating a "credible and ambitious" action plan in order to put the global economy on the track of recovery and bring strong, sustainable and balanced growth for nations.

The action plan that is expected to be adopted by the G-20 leaders at their summit in La Cabos, Mexico in June should focus on three important issues including creating a framework to assess the progress made on G20 commitments, mainstreaming jobs and employment issues into the framework exercise and stepping up efforts to support investment n sectors like infrastructure, according to Pranab Mukherjee, India's Finance Minister.

MR. Mukherjee also pointed out that investments in developing countries including that in infrastructure would help bring a balance in global demand and utilize savings. The developing and emerging countries will continue to be the drivers of growth for the global economy, he expressed.

He said that the plan to revive the global economy has not received much attention. He was speaking on "Global Economy and Framework" on the sidelines of the annual World Bank-IMF spring meetings.
