India and China must cast away the shadow of past conflicts
A senior Chinese official has said that India and China must cast off the shadow of past conflicts and move ahead in the future together.
Dai Bingguo, Beijing's chief negotiator in boundary talks with India has said that the two countries must forget the 1962 war and focus on building a birth future together. He pointed out that two countries have been friends during the 2,000 years of exchanges between them.
Dai said, "In over 2,000 years of exchanges between China and India, we have been friends for 99.9 per cent of the time, while unpleasant experience took up only 0.1 per cent."
He had his first interaction with the India media after holding 15 rounds of border talks. He had held negotiated with four top Indian officials including Brajesh Mishra, J N Dixit, M K Narayanan and present National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon on eh question of boundary issue.
He said that more and more people in India are aligning with the view that the two countries should cast away the shadow the war and move ahead to together as partners. It is believed that the Chinese academic community, the press and the general public never take pride in the military victory of their country against India several decades ago. There are no museums or major landmarks displaying a sense of national strength to embarrass India.
