Imran appeals to Benazir, Fazlur to play active role in restoring democracy
Lahore, Dec 1: Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan has appealed to former premier Benazir Bhutto and Jamaat-e-Ullema Islam (JUI) leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahman to play an active role in restoring democracy in Pakistan.
“At this crucial juncture, she (Benazir) should lead the opposition,” Imran asserted.
Khan said the boycott call given by the opposition All Party Democratic Movement (APDM) has a single point agenda of restoring judiciary to pre-emergency status.
Several hundred students gathered at Khan’s office for a convention for restoring the judiciary’s independence and the lifting of the emergency.
“Without an independent judiciary, this country has no future,” The News quoted Khan, as saying.
“I do not want students to politicise themselves,” he added.
For any movement to succeed, the participation of students is vital, Khan said. (ANI)
