IIM-A gets good response from companies
Companies continue to hire professionals from IIM-A despite low demand and tight conditions of financial market under the impact of global slowdown. Recently, around 50 companies visited the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) to recruit students of the post-graduate program (PGP), encouraging freshers not to sit idle and face challenges aroused on accounts of breakout of global recession.
In the three days recruitment drive at IIM-A, many market research and FMCG companies, investment banks, consulting firms including Booz and Co, Bain and Co, Boston Consulting Group and AT Kearney visited the campus to recruit fresh post graduates. However, the true number of companies and offer latter given by them is not disclosed yet with students are asked not to divulge placement related information to media.
The director of IIM-A, Samir Barua, said, “It is in the best interest of the institute and students that we have decided not to share any information until the final placements get over, which will be soon.”
However, IIM-A sources expressed concerns over poor involvement of foreign companies in the placement process and said, “The placements have been very poor this year. Also not many foreign companies are to be seen as compared to last year. This has of course resulted in some new companies visiting the campus.”
At IIM-C, three students managed to get pre-placement offers (PPO) of over Rs 1 crore each from investment banks in the first round of placements this week.
ISB dean, Ajit Rangnekar, said, “Four, five or ten students getting more than a crore don’t mean anything. But this is an interesting year, in the sense that companies are going to be interested in taking fresh MBAs. The PGPXs (MBA for executives) is going to be more painful.''
