If party think I should resign I will do it: President’s sonPresident Pranab Mukherjee's son Abhijit Mukherjee has unconditionally apologized for 'dented and painted' remark women protesting against the brutal gang rape of a young girl in Delhi, and said he was ready to quit if the party high command asked him for the same.

Abhijit Mukherjee, Congress MP from the Jangipur Lok Sabha seat in Murshidabad, had said that those who were coming in the name of students to protest against the brutal gang rape, sundori mahila (beautiful women), were highly dented and painted.

Almost everybody, including protesting students, women and various organizations as well as the Opposition severely criticized Abhijit for his remark, forcing him to apologize unconditionally.

When asked what will he do in case Congress high command decides to take disciplinary action against him, he claimed, "Whatever they want I will do, being a law abiding citizen, loyal soldier of party if party think I should resign I will do it."

Even his sister, Sharmishta Mukherjee, condemned his remarks, and apologized on his behalf. Abhijit also admitted that his father, Pranab Mukherjee, called him and demanded an explanation.

Abhijit Mukherjee was elected from the Jangipur to fill up the seat that had become vacant after his father's elevation to the presidency.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old gang rape victim continues to struggle for her life in the Elizabeth Hospital at Singapore. She is reportedly still in a critical though stable condition.
