ICICI Bank Net Jumps 25% On Strong Investment Banking

ICICI BankICICI Bank registered 25% growth in net profit to Rs 7,750.80 million for the first quarter ended June 2007 as against Rs 6,200.1 million in the same quarter of the last year (2006).

The operating income of the India’s biggest private sector lender ascended 50.16% to Rs 75,661.30 million for the quarter from Rs 50,386.30 million in the corresponding quarter, last year.

In comparison, total income for the same period also climbed 46.94% to Rs 92,814.20 million from Rs 63,161.9 million. The earnings per share (EPS) for the same period arose 23.7% to Rs 8.61.

Sangli Bank combined with ICICI Bank during the quarter and the shareholders of Sangli Bank were granted 3,455,008 equity shares of Rs 10 each on May 28, 2007.

The bank also issued 61,923,519 shares to QIBs and non-institutional bidders at a price of Rs 940 per share aggregating to Rs 87,500 million on Jul. 5, 2007.

Additionally, the Mumbai-based Bank also issued 49,949,238 ADS comprising green shoe option of 6,497,462 at USD 49.25 per share, symbolizing 99,898,476 underlying equity shares of Rs 10 each, aggregating to Rs 99,236.4 million on Jul. 5, 2007.

Shares of the bank closed at Rs 985.15 after losing Rs 4.40, or 0.44%. The total volume of shares traded at the BSE was 726,554.
