IBM Collaborating With Apple to Put Artificial Intelligence to Work

IBM has made announcement about its alliance with Apple and other technology companies in order to put artificial intelligence to work. IBM is working together with Apple, Medtronic, and Johnson & Johnson to make use of its Watson artificial intelligence system in order to provide users insights and advice from personal health information collected from fitness trackers, smart phones, implants or other devices.

The company is attempting to take benefit of medical records increasingly being digitized and enabling fast access for patients and healthcare providers if the information can be stored and shared efficiently. The New York-based company that manufactures and markets computer hardware and software desires to make a platform for information sharing.

The company also offers infrastructure, hosting and consulting services in areas ranging from mainframe computers to nanotechnology.

"All this data can be overwhelming for providers and patients alike, but it also presents an unprecedented opportunity to transform the ways in which we manage our health", said IBM senior vice-president John Kelly.

Kelly said there is need of better ways to look into and examine all this information in real-time to help patients and to enhance wellness globally. It is expected that more companies will join the health platform, which it envisions growing to a global scale.

According to IBM, it is buying a couple of healthcare technology companies and establishing an IBM health unit. Under the partnership, the company will manage the data gathered using health applications from Apple mobile devices.

Apple senior vice-president of operations Jeff Williams said that now IBM's secure cloud and analytics abilities offer additional tools to help speed up discoveries across a wide variety of health issues.
