Housing scam: DDA refuses to cancel flat allotment
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has not agreed to cancel the allotment of flats despite the protests which claimed irregularities in the allotment process. Commenting on the issue, DDA PRO, Neemo said, "The draw is fair and the verification process is still going on."
The DDA is on the defensive after media reported about the discrepancies in the housing allotment scheme. It denied that the draw of lots was rigged and assured the public that its verification is in progress.
After the media reports the DDA found during its scrutiny that as many as seven house allottees, which were declared winners, had the same mobile number. Clarifying on this DDA Housing Commissioner, Asma Manzar, said, "In a lot of cases, banks have given their number for a group of people."
There were five applications which did not have any address. DDA, has meanwhile claimed that the list circulated in the media does not match with the DDA records. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded action against DDA.
BJP leader V K Malhotra said, "Strong action should be taken and the money that the DDA received through the banks should be immediately returned immediately to people, along with interest."
On this DDA has promised that no possession of flat shall be given to the successful applicant without thorough scrutiny.
DDA Housing Commissioner, Asma Manzar, said, "If the applicant is found to be fraud then the draw will be cancelled, the application money forfeited and an FIR lodged."
The Urban Development Minister Ajay Maken has asked to pend the allotments the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police has completed their inquiry into the scam. However, DDA is confident about the authenticity of the process and insists on completing the allotment process by the end of January.
