Historic gold mine in South Africa's Kruger part is auctioned

South Africa MapDurban - South Africa's 125-year-old Agnes gold mine in the south of the Kruger National Park is to be auctioned next month, according to a report Friday.

The historic mine is being put on offer along with buildings and equipment by its owner African Pioneer Mining (APM), now in liquidation.

The mine, located near the town of Barberton in the northern Mpumalanga province, was part of Moodies Gold Camps that dates back to the gold rush of 1883.

APM had bought the mine in April 2001 for around 34 million rands (3.4 million dollars), The Mercury newspaper reported.

The mine property includes a farm of about 1,000 hectares, slimes dams for holding waste material, mine-related facilities and vehicles and accommodation for workers. (dpa)
