Higuain and Sneijder join Real Madrid injury list

Madrid  - Youngsters Gonzalo Higuain and Wesley Sneijder have joined Real Madrid's lengthy injury list, after Saturday's tight 1-0 home win over Recreativo Huelva.

Higuain was stretchered off with a sprained left ankle, and will be out of action for around a week.

He will miss Tuesday's crucial Champions League clash away to BATE Borisov, and possibly next Sunday's league game away to Getafe.

Higuain is to be replaced by fellow Argentine Javier Saviola, who has hardly played since joining Real from Barcelona in 2007.

Sneijder limped out of Saturday's game with a pulled muscle in his right thigh, and is doubtful for Tuesday.

Real's other injury victims are Fabio Cannavaro, Mahamadou Diarra, Ruben de la Red, Arjen Robben and Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

The defeat of Huelva leaves them second in La Liga. In Champions League group they are also in second place, four points behind leaders Juventus. (dpa)
