Hamas vows to work hard for the success of national dialogue
Cairo - Palestinian Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar said on Tuesday that his group will do everything it can to ensure the success of the Palestinian national dialogue to be held in Cairo on November 7-9.
"We will work hard to ensure the success of the dialogue and the reconciliation," Zahar said when he arrived in Cairo from Damascus late Tuesday.
"All issues will be addressed as one package, no items can be implemented without others," said Zahar, who is the leader of the Islamist group in the Gaza Strip. He added that his group was seriously considering the proposal drafted by Egypt.
Egypt has been brokering national reconciliation talks between all Palestinian factions for months. The Egyptian draft, which all Palestinian factions received on Sunday, includes reforming the Palestinian security services, which is divided between the factions, and forming a new national unity government.
One of this government's main missions will be ending the months- long siege of the Gaza Strip, which Hamas seized control of in June 2007. The strip has endured isolation and economic sanctions ever since.
"Hamas has few reservations regarding some of the details of that draft, but will participate in the all-inclusive meeting as long as the dialogue is for the interest of the Palestinian unity," Zahar told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
Zahar said the second phase of the dialogue will take place after November 9, where specialized committees will be formed to address main issues such as the government of national reconciliation and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), a body seen internationally as representing the Palestinian people and in which Hamas is not a member.
