Greece is all set to make IMF Payment Next week
On Friday, a Greece government source said that the country is likely to meet its financial obligations to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and salaries of pay workers next week. Meeting obligations could ease rumors that Athens, capital and largest city of Greece, could default on its debts with unknowable consequences for global markets.
While talking about on condition of anonymity, the source said that everything that will be paid next week is the IMF, pensions and workers' wages. According to reports, Greece, officially the Hellenic Republic, has a deadline of April 9 to pay the International Monetary Fund of about 460 million euros so that the country could meet condition of its loan agreement.
As per another source close to the government, "payment of 250 million euros in interest due later this month and the question of 2.4 billion euros worth of government bonds due to mature on April 13 and 17 were also no longer sources of anxiety for the administration of Prime Minister".
The European Union and experts from the IMF have been analyzing a list of economic reforms that was proposed by Athens to get more than 7 billion euros in loans so that the city could keep itself safe from bankruptcy.
The city, which is one of the world's oldest cities, has already been forced to meet its monthly payments in pension, salaries and debt servicing without the bailout funds. Athens has proposed to levy higher taxes on rich people. But still, creditors of Athens have been pushing for pension cuts and civil service layoffs.
There are reports that, eurozone experts will have about two meetings to discuss finances of Athens. The meeting could take place next week, the reports stated.
