Govt. may extend Aadhaar-LPG subsidy linkage deadline by one more month
The Centre may soon extend the deadline for Aadhaar-LPG subsidy linkage as some states have sought more time to complete the enrolment process.
In Andhra Pradesh, Civil Supplies Minister D. Sridhar Babu said that the Centre could announce extension in the deadline in a day or two.
Speaking on the topic, Babu said, "Despite having Aadhaar cards, a large number of people have failed to submit those details at LPG agencies and banks. We have sought more time keeping in view the interests of domestic LPG consumers."
The deadline is expected to be extended by one month to 15th of May. The government has already extended the deadline twice; first, from 15th of February 15 to 15th of March, and then from 15th of March to 15th of April.
Meanwhile, the finance ministry has taken a decision that beneficiaries would directly approach banks to get their Aadhaar numbers seeded into their bank accounts.
In a circular, the finance ministry notified the public sector banks of its decision and directed that it should be done at the earliest possible.
It is essential to seed Aadhaar numbers to bank accounts to enable the government to identify beneficiaries. There are more than 14 crore subscribers for LPG in the country.
