Govt Allows Indian Editions Of Foreign News Magazines
Foreign magazines are allowed to publish their Indian editions in the country. The union government has given its approval in the recent meeting held in New Delhi. The proposal on Indian additions of foreign magazines was sent by the Information & Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry. The norms of country allow the publication of scientific, technical and specialty periodicals editions of foreign magazines in the country with cent per cent foreign investment.
The company must be listed under the Indian Companies Act, 1956 to bring out Indian editions of foreign news magazines. There should be a significant representation to the Indian nationals in the key executives and editorial staff.
The new norms do not explain about the contents of Indian edition of foreign magazine. It can be identical to the foreign magazine or contains totally local material. The title needs to be registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India.
The foreign magazines must have minimum circulation of 10,000 copies during the last fiscal in the country of origin and must have running period of 5 years. The current move of the Indian government would encourage foreign publications to enter in the Indian market.
