Government approves funds for Swedish royals

Sweden FlagStockholm - The Swedish government has approved an increase of funds for Sweden's royal family for their official duties next year, reports said Friday.

Business daily Dagens Industri reported that the overall budget for the Court Administration and Palace Administration was 112.1 million kronor (14.6 million dollars), up 2.7 million kronor (353,000 dollars) compared to 2008.

Roughly half the total sum - 57.4 million kronor - is allocated for the Court Administration.

The funds are used for travel costs and other expenses including state visits, salaries, the queen's household, the crown princess's household and the Royal Mews that handles motorized and horse-drawn transport.

The remaining 54.7 million kronor is used by the Palace Administration for the upkeep of the royal palaces and art collections.

The court has to report how the funds were used including logging how many days the royals have been travelling and how many guests were invited to various official functions. (dpa)
