Google unveils set-top box, tablet, smartphone featuring Android LollipopLondon, Oct 16 : Google has reportedly announced three new Nexus-branded devices, designed especially to showcase its new Operating Software called Android Lollipop .

The list comprises a set-top box for TVs, a tablet and a smartphone, reported the BBC.

While the company has tried and failed with set-top boxes before, Hiroshi Lockheimer, vice-president of Android engineering, said that the tech giant has learnt from its past mistakes and is working very closely with app developers in the TV and content space to optimize apps for the large 50 inch-screen. He said that customers are likely to see high-quality set of applications that are much more focused.

The Nexus Player is Google's latest bid to set foot in the living room and will cost around 99 dollars when it is released in the U. S. and Canada in early November. It has been built by Asus and features an Intel chip.

It comes with a remote control and a built-in microphone. Users can also buy an add-on controller to play video games.

In addition to unveiling the new devices, Google has also revealed that Sony, Sharp and Philips will be building Android TV into forthcoming TV sets. The company is expected to announce other manufacturers at a later date.
