Google predicts more than 50% of advertising to go online in 5 yearsDuring the course of his recent address as the D: Dive Into Media conference, Google's chief business officer Nikesh Arora said that there is a "reasonable probability" that, within the next five years, more than half of advertising would be online.

Projecting an increased preference of the advertisers in the direction of online advertising in the coming years, Arora drew attention to the fact that online advertising currently accounts for less than $100 billion of the $800 billion worth of the global advertising industry on the whole.

Elaborating on the potential reason for a seismic shift in the advertising arena within the next five-year period, Arora said that the "biggest tipping point" in the direction of over 50 percent advertising shifting online would be the "Internet-connected televisions," which will result in "things going from 'nice-to-have' to 'must-have'."

Meanwhile, according to a new report related to advertising, it is highly likely that Google may end up generating total revenue of $5 billion in 2013, especially through the sale of advertisements on its search engine on tablets.

Noting that Google had already increased the charges that advertisers pay for ads on mobile-devices, the report revealed that the hike in the prices of mobile-device ads had brought them at par with the costs of ads on PCs; with Google giving the reason that "the lines between devices are quickly blurring" while ad performance remains similar.
