Google Maps India adds Landmarks for Driving Directions
Thanks to Google Maps India, the country has now got an advanced navigation system that will provide specific 'driving directions' to the drivers, in order to help them maneuver their vehicles in the small, meandering lanes!
Google Maps, which is already being considered a handy navigation by drivers in the US and the UK, has been tested and aptly changed over the years, ever since its 2004-launch as Google Local; and the rate of change has speeded up significantly during the past three months.
So far as Google Maps India is concerned, the driving directions that the system provides essentially pertain to key landmarks of different areas that facilitate the navigation process. These landmarks - affixed with words like 'close to' or 'near' or 'next to' a particular place - prove to be an easier and quicker way for finding locations.
The most popular landmarks - elaborated in the 'Landmarks' option in the 'Driving directions' heading of the Google India Blog - upon which the Google Maps India system is based include schools, government buildings, and petrol pumps, among others. Users keen about finding directions with Google Maps need to have a mobile phone with an Internet connection.
At present, Google Maps India only supports Driving directions; though it is quite likely that there will also be support for walking directions as well as public transport directions, in the future.
