Goa Committed To The Cause Of Diabetes Awareness
The Health Minister Vishwajit Rane inaugurated ‘The Clinic on Wheels’ for the diabetics in the state. These clinics will be equipped with all state of the art facilities to detect diabetes and offer treatment along with educational material to offer to spread awareness about the effects of the disease and how early diagnosis of high sugar levels can prevent complications at a later stage.
The Goa government along with the Bangalore based Nova Nordisk Education Foundation is committed to this program called "Changing Diabetes Barometer in the State”. Through the mobile clinics people can be reached at all levels and at their homes so as to check sugar levels and make them aware of the disease that is taking its toll in the state.
In addition to this the state has also conducted a workshop on diabetic foot care by Alethea Foster .retired consultant Podiatrist, Kings College, London. The aim is to educate people about the various bad effects of diabetes. Melvin D'Souza, managing trustee, Novo Nordisk Education Foundation said "Novo Nordisk was committed to facilitating the redefinition of healthcare delivery system around the needs of people with diabetes and to raising awareness about global burden of diabetes.
